Obverse description Central field features a detailed high-relief depiction of the Yueyang Tower, a celebrated classical Chinese pavilion rendered in traditional architectural style with multi-tiered rooflines and elaborate bracketing. The tower is set upon a broad stone terrace with flanking stairways, conveying depth and perspective. A vertical legend reading 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) appears along the right border, with the date 2001 below it. The inscription 黄金版 appears in the lower left field, denoting the series designation.

The 2001 Snake is part of China's lunar silver kilo series, which the People's Bank began issuing in the 1990s as the international bullion collector market expanded rapidly. These kilo pieces were produced in strictly limited quantities and sold primarily through authorized distributors outside mainland China — Hong Kong dealers moved the bulk of early allocations.

KM#1377 carries a mintage low enough that secondary market prices track sentiment around the lunar cycle itself, spiking whenever the Snake year returns.
