The 2016 issue marks the first year the Chinese Gold Panda series used a weight-based denomination structure benchmarked to grams rather than troy ounces, a change implemented alongside China's formal adoption of metric specifications across its entire bullion coin program that year. The switch caused considerable confusion among dealers accustomed to the prior ounce-based system, and early catalog references from 2016 are inconsistent as a result.
