Obverse description Central depiction of the Temple of Heaven (天坛) in Beijing, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic triple-eaved circular hall set upon a tiered marble terrace with a broad staircase leading to the entrance. The circular legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery in Chinese characters. The date 1990 appears in the lower exergue in Arabic numerals. The mirrored proof fields provide strong contrast against the frosted architectural device.
