| Obverse description | Frontal view of the ornate multi-tiered ceremonial gate of Putuoshan (普陀山), the sacred Buddhist island sanctuary associated with Guanyin, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) curves along the upper periphery in Chinese characters.
