Comments

The Farmers Bank of China was established in 1933 under Nationalist government control, initially to channel agricultural credit to rural provinces, though by the late 1930s wartime finance had thoroughly displaced that original mandate. This 1941 issue was printed in New York by the American Bank Note Company — a pragmatic arrangement driven by the fact that Japanese military advances had disrupted or threatened domestic Chinese printing facilities, making foreign contract printing both safer and more reliable.

ABNC's involvement in Chinese wartime currency was extensive across multiple issuing banks during this period. Notes from this series are reasonably obtainable today, though foxing and paper toning are common given the subtropical storage conditions many survived.
