The Bank of Chinan (Jinan Bank) was a Communist-controlled regional bank operating in the Shandong-Jiangsu border region during the final years of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Its notes circulated in liberated zone territories administered by the New Fourth Army and other CCP forces — areas where Nationalist currency was actively suppressed and Japanese military yen were being phased out simultaneously.
The P#S-NL designation signals this note has not been formally catalogued in the Pick Supplement, which is itself informative. Many Chinan Bank issues from this period exist in single-digit quantities in Western collections, having spent decades in Chinese institutional holdings before appearing at auction.
1945 production was interrupted by rapid territorial shifts in the months surrounding Japan's surrender.
