Obverse description Black intaglio on orange and olive underprint. A portrait vignette of Finance Minister Korekiyo Takahashi is positioned at right, framed by ornate guilloche borders. Denomination numerals and Japanese inscriptions identifying the Bank of Japan appear throughout the design.

Reverse description Printed in brown, the reverse presents an oval vignette of the Bank of Japan's main headquarters building in Tokyo at left, rendered in fine intaglio line work and surrounded by intricate guilloche scrollwork. A large latent-style numeral "50" occupies the right field against a pale underprint, with a red circular seal at centre. The inscription "NIPPON GINKO" runs along the top border and "50 YEN" appears in bold lettering within a decorative panel at the base.
