| Obverse description | Central field displays the national coat of arms of Vanuatu, featuring a Melanesian warrior standing upright in traditional dress, holding a spear in his right hand and a namele fern frond and a boar's tusk shield at his sides, set within a circular device. A ribbon scroll in the lower portion of the arms bears the national motto in Bislama: LONG GOD YUMI STANAP. The date 30th JULY and year 1981 flank the central device. The curved legend TO COMMEMORATE THE 1st. ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE arcs along the upper rim, with VANUATU inscribed in large letters along the lower rim. |
