Additional information

Captain Kidd's connection to Vanuatu is essentially nonexistent — he operated primarily in the Indian Ocean and off Madagascar before his capture and execution in London in 1701. This coin belongs to a category of small-nation gold issues produced almost entirely for the collector market, where the issuing country's name lends legal-tender status to what is, in practice, a privately marketed bullion novelty. Vanuatu's Reserve Bank authorized numerous such issues in the 2000s through licensing arrangements with foreign minting intermediaries.
