| Obverse description | Central field bears the national arms of the Mongolian People's Republic, depicting a soyombo symbol above a horseman riding across a landscape, encircled by a wreath of wheat and ribbons with the Cyrillic inscription БНМАУ on a scroll at the base. The date 1992 is divided across the left and right fields flanking the arms, with the numeral 50 prominently displayed in the lower field. The circular legend MONGOLIAN PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC runs along the upper rim in Latin script, while a traditional Mongolian script inscription appears in the lower field below the denomination. The fineness mark .999 is visible in the lower exergue area. |

Mongolia's lunar series coins of the early 1990s were struck during a period of acute political transition — the Mongolian People's Republic formally dissolved in 1992, making this one of the final issues to carry that state name before the country reverted to simply "Mongolia." The timing means pieces from this series straddle two governments, with some lunar issues appearing under the new republic while this one bears the name of the outgoing communist state.
