The Zhalaulinsky treasure — sometimes transliterated as Jalaulinskiy — refers to a hoard of Scythian-Saka goldwork unearthed in Kazakhstan, material that archaeologists place within the tradition of the so-called Animal Style metalwork produced by steppe nomads during the first millennium BC. Kazakhstan has issued a series of small-format gold coins referencing significant archaeological finds on its territory, partly as a matter of national cultural policy following independence, partly because the hoard tradition on the steppe is genuinely extraordinary in scope and frequency of discovery.
