Additional information

Issued as part of Kazakhstan's ongoing "Sacred Sites of Kazakhstan" commemorative program, the Betashar coin marks a traditional Kazakh bride-unveiling ceremony — a ritual in which a young woman is formally introduced to her husband's family through song and the gradual lifting of her veil. The program, launched in the late 2000s, was one of the National Bank's more ambitious efforts to document intangible cultural heritage through coinage rather than paper currency.
