Reverse description The reverse presents a commemorative allegorical design centered on a stylized composition marking the tenth anniversary of Kazakhstani independence. At the center, a soaring eagle with outstretched wings is depicted in front of a large circle representing the sun or globe, with radiating teardrop-shaped rays arranged around its upper arc. To the left, the eagle clutches a decorative tablet bearing traditional Kazakh ornamental motifs, while wheat ears frame the left side of the central device. The date '2001' appears in the lower central field. The bilingual circular legend reads '• ТӘУЕЛСІЗ ҚАЗАҚСТАНҒА 10 ЖЫЛ •' in Kazakh (Cyrillic) along the upper periphery and '• 10 ЛЕТ НЕЗАВИСИМОСТИ КАЗАХСТАНА •' in Russian along the lower periphery.

Additional information

Kazakhstan declared independence on December 16, 1991, following the failed August coup against Gorbachev and the subsequent collapse of Soviet institutional authority. The National Bank of Kazakhstan had only introduced the tenge itself in November 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble at a rate of 500 rubles to one tenge — meaning this commemorative marks a decade of statehood that predates the currency celebrating it by two years.
