The Central Bank of the Turkish Republic was only founded in 1930 — the same year this note was issued — making the earliest series effectively the institution's inaugural emissions. The American Bank Note Company had deep experience printing for newly established governments, and Turkey's choice of a New York printer reflected both the prestige of ABNCo's work and a deliberate distancing from European printing houses associated with the Ottoman debt apparatus.
P#142A is among the scarcer early pieces from this first series; the bank's initial print runs were conservative, and redemption rates were high as the government steadily replaced them through the 1930s.
