Obverse description The centre vignette presents a detailed intaglio view of the Monument to the Heroes of Independence (Monumento a los Heroes del 9 de Octubre de 1820) set within an ornate guilloche frame, flanked on both sides by large numeral '50' rosettes against a fine lathe-work underprint. The issuer's title 'BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR / SOCIEDAD ANONIMA' is inscribed across the top, with the denomination 'CINCUENTA SUCRES' along the lower border, the date and place of issue at lower right, and two signature lines for the Gerente General and Superintendente de Bancos at bottom centre, beneath which the printer's imprint 'AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY' appears.
