| Reverse description | The large numeral '50' dominates the central field, with the Cyrillic denomination СТОТИНКИ (Stotinki) inscribed in a curved legend along the lower rim. The date 2007 appears in the exergue below the numeral. Twelve five-pointed stars are evenly distributed around the outer border in the style of the European Union flag, reinforcing the coin's commemorative theme. |

Bulgaria's accession to the European Union took effect on January 1, 2007, alongside Romania — a pairing that had been held back from the 2004 enlargement wave due to concerns about judicial reform and corruption. This commemorative 50 Stotinki issue was struck in the same year of accession, making it one of the earliest numismatic acknowledgments of that membership.
Bulgaria retained the Lev rather than adopting the Euro, pending ERM II entry requirements that remained unmet for years beyond 2007.
