Obverse description Rampant Bohemian lion facing left, crowned, with double tail, rendered in bold relief at the centre of the field. The surrounding legend REPUBLIKA ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ is arranged around the periphery in large, widely spaced Latin characters, with the date 1920 appearing near the base. A small decorative rosette ornament is placed below the date. The overall design, by engraver Otakar Španiel, exhibits a bold, modernist aesthetic characteristic of early Czechoslovak coinage proposals.
