Additional information

This piece was struck for the 1998 Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur — the first Games to include boxing as a full medal sport after its reinstatement following years of amateur governance disputes. Tonga's inclusion of boxing on a commemorative issue was not incidental; Tāufaʻahau Tupou IV had been a vocal advocate for Pacific Island athletic programs, and the kingdom punched well above its weight in combat sports regionally throughout the 1990s.

The .925 silver specification places it firmly in the collector-issue category, almost certainly never released for circulation.
