| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Salote Tupou III, depicted with her characteristic coiffure and wearing a pearl necklace. The legend 'SALOTE TUPOU III' arcs along the upper field within a beaded border. Two countermarked inscriptions reading 'IN MEMORIAM' and the dates '1965 + 1970' appear on either side of the portrait, applied diagonally in the left and right fields respectively, commemorating the queen's death. The date '1967' appears prominently in the lower exergue. |
