Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board, established in 1967 when Brunei introduced the Brunei dollar under a currency interchangeability agreement with Malaysia and Singapore — an arrangement that remains in force today, making the Brunei dollar and Singapore dollar exchangeable at par with no transaction fees. That agreement, almost uniquely durable among post-colonial monetary arrangements, is the direct reason the Currency Board exists as a distinct institution worth commemorating at all.
