When Brunei's currency authority began issuing coins after the country's full independence in 1984, the Sultan's title on the coinage underwent at least one quiet correction mid-series. This variety lacks the numeral 'I' following the Sultan's title — an engraving omission rather than a deliberate design choice — and was rectified before the series concluded in 1993.
