Obverse description Black intaglio print on plain paper. The British Royal Arms vignette occupies the top centre, flanked by Sinhala and Tamil denomination legends and numeral '50' within ornate guilloche rosettes at each upper corner. The note bears a full letterpress promise-to-pay text in copperplate script below, with serial numbers at left and right, all within an intricate guilloche border.

Reverse description Black intaglio print. The reverse carries a symmetrical lathe-work design composed of four large oval guilloche medallions arranged in pairs, linked by spirographic scrollwork and smaller rosettes, printed from Perkins Bacon patent hardened steel plates. An adhesive repair slip from Grayling, Kresham & Son, London is affixed vertically at centre.
