Obverse description The Indian State Emblem — the Lion Capital of Ashoka — is prominently depicted at the top center of the field, showing three of the four lions atop an abacus adorned with a centrally placed Dharma Chakra flanked by a horse and a bull in relief. Directly below the emblem, the national motto 'सत्यमेव जयते' (Satyameva Jayate, meaning 'Truth Alone Triumphs') is inscribed in Devanagari script. The large numeral '50' dominates the lower half of the field, with 'RUPEES' inscribed in Latin script along the right periphery. The country name appears in Devanagari ('भारत') along the left periphery and in Latin ('INDIA') along the upper right periphery. The denomination in Hindi ('रुपये') is also present in the legend.

Reverse description At the center of the field, the official emblem of the International Year of the Child is depicted: a stylized square slate or blackboard bearing a cheerful sun motif at the top and two child figures below, all enclosed within a circular frame. This central device is surrounded by a wreath of olive or laurel branches rendered in bold relief. A bilingual legend encircles the design, with the Hindi inscription arching across the upper periphery and the English inscription arching along the lower periphery. The date '1979' appears in the exergue below the central device, between the two halves of the wreath.
