Obverse description Printed in black and green on cream paper, the obverse is dominated by an elaborate guilloche band running horizontally across the centre, within which the denomination "FIFTY RUPEES" is boldly lettered in green over a cursive promise-to-pay text in black script. Circular medallions at left and right carry the numeral "50" within fine lathe-work borders, while Sinhalese and Tamil denomination inscriptions appear beneath the central guilloche. The issuer's title is set within a heavily ornamented cartouche at top, a rectangular panel at lower left reads "FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF CEYLON", and four red serial numbers are placed at the upper left, upper right, lower left, and lower right, with the place and date of issue "Colombo, 1st. November, 1909" in script above the authorising signature.
