Reverse description The central motif presents a young brown bear cub seated upright in three-quarter view, rendered in finely detailed high relief, holding a small flower in its raised right paw. The bear is set within a decorative folk-art composition featuring stylized flowering plant stems to the left and ornamental foliate scrollwork framing the lower field. To the right, a traditional Russian wooden cottage and stylized conifer trees appear in the middle ground. The legend 'СОХРАНИМ НАШ МИР' (Protect Our World) is inscribed in a decorative Cyrillic script arcing across the upper portion of the field, integrated with the overall folk-art aesthetic of the design.

Additional information

Part of Russia's early post-Soviet wildlife series, this issue appeared at a moment when the Central Bank was simultaneously managing catastrophic ruble inflation and attempting to establish credibility as an independent monetary authority. Bullion and collector gold issues were partly a hard-currency play — priced in dollars for export markets while the domestic economy collapsed.

The .999 fineness was a deliberate departure from Soviet-era gold coinage standards, signaling alignment with international bullion coin conventions then dominated by the Krugerrand, Maple Leaf, and Gold Eagle.
