The North Caucasian SSR was a short-lived Bolshevik entity carved out of the turbulent southern front in 1918, its territory contested almost from the moment it was proclaimed. The Volunteer Army under Denikin was pressing hard through the region, and whatever banking infrastructure existed was improvised under military pressure — the "Temporary Central Administration" in this note's issuer name is not bureaucratic modesty but an honest description of the situation on the ground.

Regional Soviet emissions from 1918 vary enormously in print quality, and the North Caucasian issues are among the more rudimentary. The republic itself collapsed before the year was out.
