Belarus has issued Slavic maternal iconography coins repeatedly since the early 2000s, but the 2023 program reflects a deliberate pivot toward domestically resonant cultural themes at a moment when the Lukashenko government has been aggressively promoting a curated Belarusian national identity — partly as insulation against both Western pressure and Russian cultural absorption. These are collector pieces with essentially no circulation function, issued through the National Bank's numismatic program and typically sold at significant premium above melt.
