The curved legend «БАНК РОССИИ» (Bank of Russia) arcs beneath the eagle. Along the outer rim, the denomination «ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ» (Fifty Roubles) appears above, while below are arranged the alloy designation and fineness (Au 999), the year of issue «2007 г.», the fine metal content (7.78), and the Saint Petersburg Mint mark (СПМД). |

Part of Russia's ongoing "Russian Orthodox Culture" series, this issue commemorates the role of guardian angel iconography in Russian religious tradition. The series drew criticism from some secular quarters when launched in the early 2000s, given the constitutional separation of church and state — the Bank of Russia proceeded regardless, and the program has continued expanding ever since.
