| Reverse description | Left-facing bearded bust of King Victor Emmanuel II, founder of unified Italy, rendered in high relief with fine portrait detail including a full beard and military collar. To the left of the effigy, the legend 'ROMA' is inscribed vertically, while the dates '1870-1970' appear vertically along the right border, commemorating the centenary of Rome becoming the capital of Italy. Below the bust, the Latin inscription 'ITALICUM REGNUM' appears above the founding date '1861', flanked by a small figurine of the Capitoline Wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. An infinity symbol rendered in beaded style appears to the right of the portrait in the field. The engraver's initials 'SDG' are present in the lower right field, and the whole design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
