Obverse description The large crowned royal arms of Spain occupy the central field, comprising a quartered shield displaying the castles of Castile, lions of León, the diagonal stripes of Aragón, and the fleurs-de-lis of the Anjou-Granada composite, surmounted by an ornate imperial crown. The denomination numeral '50' appears to the right of the shield, with the assayer mark to the lower left. The circumferential legend reads in Gothic-influenced Roman capitals, divided by the shield, and the entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and a milled outer border.
