The 2012 50 Rand series was intended to incorporate Omron rings — the constellation pattern recognised by photocopiers and printers as a trigger to halt reproduction of banknotes. Notes from this printing were released without them, an omission significant enough to warrant a separate Pick listing. Whether this reflects a production error or a deliberate interim run ahead of full security specification remains unclear from available documentation.
Gill Marcus served as Governor from 2009 to 2014, and her signature appears on relatively few note types within the broader SARB series.
