| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a dramatic confrontation between a male lion and a lioness, both shown in full body advancing toward one another across a rocky ground line rendered in fine relief. The male lion, with a full mane, crouches on the right whilst the lioness, snarling, approaches from the left. The denomination 'R50' is prominently displayed in the upper left field in large raised lettering, with the specification legend '1/2 oz Au 999.9' inscribed in smaller characters above it. A stylised protea ornament appears at the top of the coin, with the series name 'NATURA' inscribed in a curved legend along the lower rim above a matching decorative device.
