Obverse description Central device features the Sudanese state eagle displayed, with wings spread, bearing a shield on its breast and a scroll inscribed with the national motto below. The dual dates 1392 (AH) and 1972 (AD) flank the eagle in the field, with the Hijri date to the right and the Gregorian date to the left. A circular Arabic legend arcs above, reading the third anniversary of the May 25th Revolution, and a further legend curves along the lower rim identifying the Democratic Republic of the Sudan. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.

Reverse description Central device depicts a farmer guiding two bulls pulling a plough to the right, symbolising agricultural development and the FAO theme of increased production. Decorative floral ornaments occupy the left and right fields flanking the central scene. The Arabic legend arcing across the upper field reads 'More Production', and the denomination '50 Qirsh' is rendered in large Arabic-Indic numerals and script along the lower portion of the field. The design is enclosed within a beaded border.
