Obverse description Central device features the Syrian Arab Republic coat of arms: a facing eagle of Saladin with outstretched wings, clutching a shield charged with three green stars arranged vertically on a vertical tricolor. The eagle's breast bears the shield, and its talons grasp a scroll inscribed with the country name in Arabic. Two dates appear in the lower field — the Gregorian year 1979 and the Hijri year 1399 — separated by a central dot, rendered in Eastern Arabic numerals. The design is surrounded by a plain inner border with a beaded outer rim.
