Eleven five-pointed stars ring the periphery. The legend SHQIPËRI arcs across the upper field, and the date 1964 appears in the lower exergue. Albania's 1964 coinage series was produced under Enver Hoxha's government during a period of dramatic political realignment — the year Tirana formally broke with Moscow following years of tension rooted in Khrushchev's de-Stalinization policies. China stepped in as the primary patron, and Albanian state enterprises, including the mint, operated under conditions of near-total isolation from the Western bloc. The aluminium composition reflects chronic material constraints rather than any technical preference.
