Additional information

Zahir Shah's long reign (1933–1973) was marked by cautious modernization, and the Afghan coinage of the early 1950s reflects that incrementalism. The "small type" designation for this issue distinguishes it from the physically larger predecessor struck under the same ruler — a reduction driven by metal economy rather than any redenomination. KM#942.1 specifically identifies the variety with the smaller module, a distinction that matters for attribution since the two types circulated concurrently and are frequently conflated in general collections.
