Alderney's outsized commemorative program in the 2000s leaned heavily on Royal milestones, and this kilogram piece was issued for the Queen's 80th birthday. The denomination is nominal — Alderney's £50 face value coins have never circulated and exist entirely as collector vehicles authorized under the island's dependency status, which allows it to issue its own coinage distinct from both British and Guernsey series.
At 100mm and a full kilogram of .999 silver, production tolerances on pieces this size mean edge and field quality varies more than on standard issues. KM#136 was struck by the Pobjoy Mint.
