Additional information

Alderney's oversized silver issues of this period were produced by the Pobjoy Mint under license from the island's administration, which — as a Crown dependency separate from both Guernsey and the UK — holds the right to issue its own coinage. The 1000g format was essentially a bullion trophy piece aimed squarely at the collector market, with no pretense of circulation.

William's 21st birthday in June 2003 prompted a wave of commemorative issues across British territories. Alderney was among the more aggressive issuers.
