Obverse description The third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael David Maklouf, occupies the silver centre field, depicting the Queen as a right-facing draped bust wearing the Royal Diadem crown and a drop earring, with a necklace visible at the truncation. The engraver's initials 'RDM' appear at the base of the bust truncation. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left of the gold-toned outer ring, while 'ALDERNEY' arcs along the upper right. The date '2002' is inscribed in large characters along the lower portion of the outer ring, completing the circular legend.

Reverse description A detailed rendering of Westminster Abbey is depicted prominently at the centre of the silver inner field, symbolising the site of Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation in 1953, with the face value inscribed below. The gold-toned outer ring is decorated with a series of celebratory scenes from London on Coronation Day, 2nd June 1953, evoking the pageantry and public jubilation of the historic occasion. The reverse commemorates the Golden Jubilee of the Queen's reign, marking fifty years on the throne. The legend 'FIFTY POUNDS' appears within the design to denote the denomination.
