Obverse description Fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting a mature, uncrowned bust with elaborately coiled hair secured by a decorative tiara. The engraver's initials IRB appear truncated below the neck. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II D G REG FID DEF in Latin, and the denomination 50 POUNDS is inscribed along the lower border. The portrait is rendered with fine relief detail characteristic of the proof finish, set against a mirror-polished field.
