Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in three-quarter view to the right occupies the right half of the note, set against an intricate multicolour guilloche underprint. To the left centre, the denomination FIFTY POUNDS is printed in large bold lettering above the name GIBRALTAR and the date 27th November 1986. A vignette of the Rock of Gibraltar with the town below appears in the upper left, while the Gibraltar coat of arms — a castle with key motif and the legend MONTIS INSIGNIA CALPE — is centred at the lower middle. Ornate script £50 numerals appear in each corner, and the printer's imprint THOMAS DE LA RUE & COMPANY, LIMITED is present at the lower right margin.
