Buchdruckerei J. Reiss Wwe. was a Munich printing house — the "Wwe." abbreviation indicating it was run by a widow at the time of issue, a common survival arrangement for German family businesses in the notgeld period. Self-printed notgeld like this, where the issuer and printer are the same firm, was entirely legal under the emergency currency provisions that proliferated after 1914, and dozens of Munich commercial establishments did exactly this.
The practical self-interest is obvious: the printing house bore no external production cost.
