| Obverse description | Printed on light blue cardstock in dark navy ink throughout, the obverse is set within a simple ruled border with corner ornaments. The denomination numeral '50' occupies the centre in a large blackletter typeface, flanked to the left by the issuer name 'Nöschenröder Notgeld' and below by 'Pfennige', all rendered in Fraktur script. To the upper right, a rhyming verse in Low German dialect fills the field. The issue place and date 'Meschenroe, an'n 1. April 1921' appear at lower left, with two printed facsimile signatures ('De Schulze Hirschelmann' and 'De Schöppe Jäntier') at lower right. The printer's imprint runs along the bottom margin in small roman type. |

Nöschenrode was a small village community that issued its own emergency currency during the notgeld period — something thousands of German municipalities did between roughly 1919 and 1922 to compensate for the chronic shortage of small-denomination coins. What distinguishes this particular piece is the designer credit: Maria Alde is a named individual, which is relatively uncommon in notgeld documentation, where artistic attribution is usually absent or buried. Local printers like Schaffhäuser & Claus handled enormous volumes of these commissions from surrounding communities in the Harz region.
The watermark is an unusual security feature at this denomination and format — most cardstock notgeld relied purely on overprinting or serial numbering.
