| Obverse description | Yellow-toned Notgeld note with a central octagonal vignette bearing the oldest town seal (Altestes Stadt-Siegel) of Freienwalde in Pomerania, rendered in red and black with a heraldic device and circular Latin legend. The denomination "50 PFENNIG" appears in a guilloche-bordered cartouche at the left, while floral and scrollwork ornamental borders frame the entire composition. A serial number is printed in black along the lower left, with a manuscript signature of the Magistrat to the lower right and an invalidation notice in Gothic script at the upper right. |

Freienwalde in Pommern — a small spa town on the Oder — issued this note during the acute coin shortage that paralyzed small-denomination commerce across Germany in 1920. The Reichsbank's inability to mint sufficient coinage fast enough to keep pace with postwar inflation pushed hundreds of municipal councils into printing their own Kleingeldersatz. The Görlitzer Nachrichten und Anzeiger, primarily a newspaper publisher, was one of numerous regional print shops pressed into emergency currency production during this period.
