| Obverse description | Printed in dark red and ochre on white paper, the obverse carries a large Gothic-script heading 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' across the upper portion, flanked at upper right by a circular denomination cartouche reading '50 Pf'. At upper left, the town's heraldic shield vignette shows a standing armoured figure. A central ochre panel bears a four-line dialect verse attributed to Johann Peter Hebel, with the issuance place and date 'Todtnau i. Wiesental, 31.
