Obverse description Printed in dark red and ochre on white paper, the obverse carries a large Gothic-script heading 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' across the upper portion, flanked at upper right by a circular denomination cartouche reading '50 Pf'. At upper left, the town's heraldic shield vignette shows a standing armoured figure. A central ochre panel bears a four-line dialect verse attributed to Johann Peter Hebel, with the issuance place and date 'Todtnau i. Wiesental, 31. Okt. 1921' and the Bürgermeister's manuscript signature below. Two further circular '50 Pf' cartouches appear at lower left and right, flanked by ornamental scroll motifs.
