Obverse description The obverse is printed in dark red and ochre tones on cream paper in a folksy Art Nouveau style characteristic of German Notgeld issues. Upper left bears the municipal coat of arms of Todtnau within a decorative cartouche, while the large Gothic-script title 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' occupies the upper portion; a circular denomination roundel '50 Pf' appears at upper right. A central ochre panel contains a four-line dialect verse attributed to Johann Peter Hebel, flanked by ornamental rosette medallions, with the issuing authority line 'Todtnau i. Wiesental, 31. Okt. 1921 / Der Bürgermeister' and a facsimile signature below; two further '50 Pf' denomination circles anchor the lower corners, and a validity notice runs along the bottom edge.
