Comments

Bad Rastenberg was a small spa town in Thuringia that issued emergency paper currency — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortages that plagued Germany between roughly 1917 and 1922. Municipal issues from towns this size were often printed in very short runs by local printers, and the quality and longevity of the paper reflects that. Bad Rastenberg was later incorporated into the town of Rastenberg, which itself eventually merged into the municipality of Kölleda, so the issuing authority effectively ceased to exist administratively not long after these notes circulated.
