| Obverse description | Central device features the Imperial German eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to the right, bearing a small quartered shield on its breast and surmounted by an imperial crown. The eagle is flanked on either side by a sprig of oak, the branches curving upward and meeting above the eagle's crown. The mint mark 'A' appears in the lower field below the eagle, denoting the Berlin Mint. The border is composed of a distinctive square-pellet pattern rather than a conventional toothed edge, characteristic of this pattern issue. |
