Obverse description Central device depicts the heraldic emblem of Stralsund: a crowned Marian symbol consisting of a stylized letter 'M' surmounted by an elaborate crown, rendered in high relief within the field. The device is surrounded by a beaded inner border. The circular legend STADT STRALSUND arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 1917 appearing in the lower field, flanked by two small star ornaments. The overall design is bold and austere, consistent with wartime emergency coinage aesthetics.

Reverse description The denomination numeral '50' is prominently displayed in large, bold characters at the centre of the field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The legend KRIEGSGELD (meaning 'war money') arcs around the upper portion of the coin between the beaded border and the rim. Three small star ornaments are evenly spaced along the lower arc of the inner beaded border. The design is stark and functional, characteristic of First World War German notgeld emergency issues.
