Ländliche Spar- und Darlehnskasse Oberheldrungen u. Umgegend was a rural cooperative credit union — a Raiffeisen-model institution — serving a cluster of small agricultural villages in the Prussian province of Saxony. These local savings and loan cooperatives issued Notgeld during the severe small-change shortage of 1921 not as speculative collectibles but as genuine transactional currency, distributed among members and local merchants who had no other means of making change.

Adolf Forker of Leipzig produced enormous quantities of small-denomination emergency notes for provincial cooperatives during this period, and the print quality reflects that volume. Oberheldrungen itself had a population well under a thousand.
